From the perspective of a tutor, will the students at Malvern English Tutors cope? Will the students at Malvern English Tutors be ok?
WILL MET HAVE PREPARED THE YOUNGSTERS?
Are the English GCSE and English Lit A- Level Students ready? Will they think of timings? Will they remember to explore the language? What about the overview statement or the thesis?
Sitting here, knowing that the GCSE tutees are just opening their English Literature Paper 2 exam papers, I have many thoughts going through my head. They will be looking for the poem which they have revised the most. “Probably, possibly” ; “Possibly, probably” it is there or perhaps “led by her” it is not the one they went over and over the night before.
Will Malvern English Tutors have chosen the right poem?
I would love to say that always happens, but it doesn’t. What is important is that I have equipped the tutees to deal with the poem in front of them. A bit like life, I’ve enabled them to access their growing skills to sort out the poem. Yes, we can treat GCSE and A Level English Literature students like cattle and just throw different stuff at them but here at Malvern English Tutors, (MET), I try to personalise the learning and equip the students to find ways of working it out. Resilience if you like.
So, yes, the students at Malvern English Tutors (MET) will be ok.
Some will open the paper and see exactly what they want to see. They will construct answers which have played out in their heads many times. Others will read through the papers: take up their highlighters; go over key words; jot down quotations; think carefully about assessment objectives ; write overview statements and think about writer’s intentions . They will explore the possibilities of the word in front of them. They will grapple with skills which they will need to practice time and time again in their future lives. Yes, the students at Malvern English Tutors will be ok today and tomorrow…
